Schlage ENGAGE Series Wireless Locks

The Schlage NDE(B) and LE(B) wireless locks communicate with access controllers through the ENGAGE Gateway (Lock Interface).

The Schlage AD-400 wireless locks communicate with the LNL-series access controller via the PIM400 Gateway (Lock Interface).

Integrating Schlage locks in Elements

ENGAGE Gateway

Integrating the ENGAGE™ Gateway with Elements provides real-time updates and control of the Schlage® NDE and LE wireless locks.

Up to eight (8) ENGAGE gateways can be added to each controller communication port.

When an access controller communicates using the Schlage protocol on its communication port, this port will then only support Schlage devices and cannot be mixed with standard downstream devices.

Wiring

The ENGAGE Gateway communicates to an access controller via a half-duplex, multi-drop 2-wire RS-485 interface. The total cable length is limited to 4000 feet (1219 m). A shielded cable of 24 AWG with characteristic impedance of 120 ohm is specified for the 2-wire RS-485 interface. The last device on each end of the communication line should have the terminator installed (install jumper J1).

The following table indicates shows how to wire the RS-485 connection between the ENGAGE Gateway and access controller.

Schlage NDE(B) and LE(B) Locks

Up to 10 Schlage NDE(B) and LE(B) locks can be configured for each ENGAGE Gateway.

These locks support credentials for multiple technologies including Bluetooth mobile access credentials, and may include the Interior Push Button (IPB) with indications for additional functionality. See Lock functions for more details.

Schlage PIM400 AD-400 Locks

Up to eight (8) PIM400 Gateways can be connected per downstream port. Up to 16 PIM400 Gateways can be connected per access controller. supporting a maximum of 64 AD-400 wireless locks across the entire controller. Each PIM400 supports a maximum of 16 wireless locks.

One (1) PIM400 can be connected to an LNL-X2210 or LNL-2210, supporting up to 16 AD-400 wireless locks.

Controller-PIM400 Gateway Wiring

Use a shielded twisted-pair cable with characteristic impedance between 90 Ohm and 120 Ohm.

Communication to and from the controller is RS-485. Wireless communication between the PIM400 Gateway and the AD-400 locks is accomplished via RF protocol.

Low Battery Reporting

Since Schlage wireless locks are powered by batteries, it is important to know when the batteries are running low. For this reason, Elements reports two (2) low battery events: Low Battery and Critically Low Battery. These events alert you when the battery power falls below the following voltage levels:

  • Low battery threshold: < 4.5V
  • Critical battery threshold: < 4.0V
The locks run on three (3) AAA alkaline batteries which, when new, provide approximately 6V of power.

Integrating Schlage Locks in Elements

  1. Wire the ENGAGE/PIM400 Gateway to the access controller.
  2. *Commission the ENGAGE Gateway and locks, then link the locks to the ENGAGE Gateway using the ENGAGE mobile app.
  3. *Commission the PIM400 Gateway and locks.
  4. Add the gateway (Lock Interface).
  5. Add a locks.
  6. Link the AD-400 locks.

*For instructions, see the manufacturer's documentation.
