The ENGAGE Gateway is connected directly to a downstream port on an access controller. As with other downstream devices, each ENGAGE Gateway must have a unique RS-485 address within the downstream port. Multiple ENGAGE Gateways can be daisy chained off of the same controller port. For performance reasons, it is recommended that no more than eight (8) gateways are connected to a single RS-485 communication port.

When an access controller communicates using the Schlage protocol on its communication port, this port will then only support Schlage devices and cannot be mixed with standard downstream devices.

Lock addresses (referred to as door addresses by Allegion) must also be unique within each communication port. To prevent duplication or overlapping of lock addresses, Allegion requires assigning each gateway to a "Low door" and "High door" range of reserved door addresses that are used when the locks are linked to the gateways.

Although 64 locks can be supported on a single access controller, the lock address ranges may include the allocation of extra lock addresses for each lock interface. This allows for adding locks in the future without re-addressing the address ranges on other gateways.

For an ENGAGE Gateway wired to an LNL-X2210 or LNL-2210: A maximum of 17 NDE/LE wireless locks are supported per controller.

The ENGAGE Gateway address is assigned when it is commissioned within the Allegion ENGAGE platform (via the mobile app) whereas lock addresses are assigned when they are linked to the gateway. The ENGAGE Gateway and locks must be commissioned within the ENGAGE platform before they can be used.
