Knowing the capacity of your access controllers to store cardholders helps you determine which controllers best meet your needs. Elements provides this information for each controller configured in your system and sends warnings if the controllers are at risk of not storing all of your cards.

Credentials Stored

Information about controller capacity is provided on the access controller's details screen:

  • Percentage of the controller's total capacity that is currently used to store credentials (mobile and badges).
  • How many credentials are used: The number of credentials currently stored on the access controller.

    • A refresh is required to get the latest count.
    • The access controller must be online to have the count reported.
  • How many credentials are Available: This is the maximum number of cardholders that can be stored on an access controller based on its configuration.

Available capacity depends on the controller model. In some cases, it may be necessary to replace one model with another to accommodate your required storage capacity needs.

* Typical capacity for controllers configured with these default settings:

  • Allow credential expiration dates: Enabled
If expiration dates are Disabled, more capacity is available.
  • PIN Options: 6 digits
If the PIN length is increased, there is less capacity.

Capacity Warnings, Status and Events

Warnings are displayed when your controllers are at risk of not storing all of your credentials and the Status is updated when the maximum number of credentials is Near Capacity Limit (90% full) or Over Capacity (100%).

Once Capacity is at 100%, existing credentials continue to work but new ones will not.

In addition, the access controller capacity events "90% of Cardholder Capacity Reached" and "100% of Cardholder Capacity Reached" are displayed in the Events list.
